Qualification Details

Fit reasons
  • NAICS alignment with historical contract wins in similar service areas.
  • Scope strongly matches core technical capabilities and delivery model.
Risks
  • Past performance thresholds may require one additional teaming partner.
  • Potential clarification needed on staffing minimums before bid/no-bid.
Next steps

Quick Summary

The US Geological Survey (USGS) is conducting market research through a Sources Sought announcement for Microwave Communication Equipment. This initiative aims to identify qualified businesses capable of providing equipment for real-time seismic data telemetry, prioritizing minimal latency. Responses are due May 12, 2026, at 1500 PST.

Scope of Work

The required microwave communication equipment will transmit digitized seismic data from remote collection points to primary and secondary data processing centers. Key technical requirements include:

  • Frequency Bands: Support for 7 GHz (7.125–7.750 GHz) and 8 GHz (7.750–8.500 GHz).
  • Channel Bandwidths: Specific bandwidths for both 7 GHz (150, 175, 300 MHz) and 8 GHz (300, 360 MHz).
  • Modulation Schemes: Must support a wide range from QPSK to 4096-QAM.
  • Data Transmission: Capability for 10–940 Mbps throughput per link, up to 5.64 Gbps per node, TDM (DS1, DS3, OC-3), large frame sizes (up to 10,000 bytes bidirectional), and IEEE 802.1AX LAG / proprietary LILA aggregation.
  • Power: Options for +24 VDC, -48 VDC, or AC input (via external converter), with power consumption between 50W-150W per indoor unit, including redundant power supply support and input protection.
  • Networking/SOH: Equipment must be IP addressable (IPv4/IPv6), support VLAN (IEEE 802.1Q, 802.1ad), Flow Control (IEEE 802.3x), and OAM (IEEE 802.1ag/ITU-T Y.1731). A web-based user interface with HTTPS and password protection, SNMPv3 support, and remote "over the air" access for configuration and firmware updates are required. Common state-of-health (SOH) metrics must be displayed.
