Quick Summary

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has issued a Special Notice/Request for Information (RFI) for an Advanced Energetics Manufacturing Technical Interchange Meeting (TIM). DARPA seeks information on new technologies to enhance the efficiency and distributed production of energetic materials. The TIM is anticipated for May 27, 2026, in Arlington, VA, with RFI responses due by May 8, 2026.

Purpose & Background

DARPA will host an in-person TIM to engage with the energetics community. The primary objective is to discuss technologies that can increase the efficiency and/or distributed production of energetic materials, promote dialogue, address stakeholder questions, and provide a forum for industry to present capabilities. Current U.S. energetics production relies on costly, large-footprint batch processing methods susceptible to impurities and requiring specialized expertise, hindering the safe and efficient production of explosives and propellants.

Key Areas of Interest

DARPA is specifically interested in technologies related to:

  • Energetics Processing: State-of-the-art approaches including continuous flow, crystallization, wastewater remediation, rapid drying, and recycling.
  • Tools & Intensification: Energetics reaction planning/prediction tools, in-line process monitoring, and process intensification for footprint reduction.
  • Resiliency & Scale-Up: Resource resiliency (supply chains, cost, personnel) and the industrialization and scale-up of energetic material processing techniques. Responses should identify key insights, tractable solutions, and accelerated paths to mitigate risks, quantifying their impact on national security concerns.

Submission & Event Details

  • RFI Response Deadline: May 8, 2026, 11:59 PM ET.
  • Questions Deadline: May 4, 2026, 5:00 PM ET (responses posted by May 6, 2026).
  • Technical Interchange Meeting (TIM): May 27, 2026, in Arlington, VA. Attendance is by invitation only, based on RFI responses.
  • Submission Format: Microsoft Word or Adobe PDF, 12-point font, single-spaced, 8.5x11 inch paper, 1-inch margins.
  • Response Structure: Must include a Cover Sheet (1 page), Technical Description (max 2 pages), and Bibliography (max 2 pages).

Eligibility & Important Notes

This RFI is open to all capable and qualified sources engaged in related research. TIM participation is limited to U.S. Citizens only due to Controlled Unclassified Information. This is for information and research purposes only and is not a formal solicitation. Responses are voluntary, do not obligate DARPA to any further action, and will not be reimbursed.
