Quick Summary

The U.S. Army Contracting Command – Rock Island (ACC-RI) is conducting market research through a Sources Sought notice for Ball Bearings. The purpose is to identify potential SAM.gov registered businesses capable of providing manufactured ball bearings for an anticipated Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract. Key requirements include manufacturing in the United States or Canada and adherence to specific material and performance specifications. Responses are due by March 30, 2026.

Scope of Work

This opportunity anticipates an IDIQ for current and future requirements of manufactured ball bearings, brand name or equal to Abbott Ball Company – Part #: MS19060-1008. Minimum quantity is 1,000,000 each or 1,000 packages of 1,000 ball bearings. Required specifications for individual balls include:

  • Material: Corrosion resistant steel (UNS S44003 or UNS S44004 per ASTM A276), Grade 10, density of .277 pound per cubic inch.
  • Hardness: 58-65 HRC or equivalent.
  • Dimensions: Basic Diameter .125000", allowable ball diameter variation of 10 millionths of an inch, allowable deviation from spherical form of 10 millionths of an inch.
  • Surface Roughness: 1.0 millionths of an inch (ARITHMETICAL AVERAGE).
  • Packaging: 1,000 pieces per bag.

Quality assurance requires a Material Certification and Certificate of Conformance or Certified Material Test Report (CMTR) for each shipment, detailing material, hardness, surface roughness, density, and part number. A First Article Test (FAT) of 10 units is required with each delivery order, with government testing covering "100% of all drawing characteristics."
