Scope of Work
The contractor will perform bat surveying and mist-netting activities over a two-week period between July 1 and August 15, 2026. Key requirements include:
- Obtaining Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) approval independently, which is a prerequisite for Army Animal Research Compliance and Oversight Office (ARCOO) approval. Experience with ARCOO approval is an evaluation criterion.
- Conducting mist-net surveys at a minimum of four sites, with at least two net nights per site (totaling 8 net nights) within a 14-calendar-day period. Nets must be checked every 10 minutes for five hours starting at dusk.
- Collecting specific data on captured bats, including species, sex, age, reproductive status, mass, forearm length, and wing score.
- Purchasing and attaching 10 radio transmitters to a subset of captured bats (prioritizing Myotis spp. and Perimyotis subflavus), ensuring compatibility with Motus automated radio telemetry networks and Lotek SRX1200-M2 receivers.
- Opportunistically collecting and storing guano samples.
- Submitting draft and final reports detailing all work performed, including results, species captured, morphometrics, transmitter details, locations, sampling effort, and data sheets, along with DD Form 882(s) for patents.
