Quick Summary
The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), Producer Price Index (PPI) Program Office, has issued a Sources Sought / Request for Information (RFI) to identify potential subscription services for aggregated current month chicken egg and select seafood price data. This data is crucial for assisting the PPI in calculating indexes. This is a market research effort, not a request for proposals, and the government will not pay for information received. Responses are due by May 18, 2026.
Scope of Work
The BLS seeks monthly price data for:
- Chicken Eggs: Weighted average price per region (Northeast, Midwest, Southeast, South Central, Northwest, California) broken down by size (Jumbo, Extra large, Large, Medium, Small, Breaker stock). Prices should be reported as $/dozen eggs, calculated from egg processors and weighted by wholesale transaction volume.
- Select Seafood: Weighted average price by volume of all wholesale transactions covering U.S. domestic channels for tuna, shrimp, crabs, lobster, clams, oysters, sea scallops, and mussels. Specific reporting units include $/pound (less-than-truckload basis, HSLO for shrimp) or $/count, calculated over the first fourteen days of the month.
