Quick Summary

The Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY), under the Department of the Navy, is conducting market research through a Sources Sought Notice to identify qualified sources for fire suppression system installation services. This effort targets diesel generator rooms on three (3) 60T portal cranes at NNSY in Portsmouth, Virginia. The Government is particularly interested in identifying small business concerns. Responses are due May 28, 2026, at 2:00 PM EST.

Scope of Work

This opportunity involves providing engineered fire suppression system installation services for diesel generator rooms on three 60T portal cranes. The systems must comply with applicable NFPA standards, including but not limited to NFPA 12, NFPA 72, and NFPA 2001. The work environment requires elevated industrial crane access within a shipyard/marine setting. The Statement of Work (SOW) specifies the installation of a fixed fire extinguishing system for the crane compartment containing the diesel engine, with piping marked "FIRE EXTINGUISHING SYSTEM" and painted bright red. Extinguishing agent containers must be mounted externally and marked. Manual actuation stations are required outside each protected compartment. The system must include an automatically actuated audible alarm system (NFPA 72 compliant) providing a 20-30 second warning before agent release, shutting down ventilation fans, and initiating diesel engine shutdown. The Period of Performance (POP) is 12 months from award, with work performed approximately 75 feet above crane rails.
