Statement of Work (SOW) / Performance Work Statement (PWS)

To brush trails to a standard suitable for Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) and snowmobile use.

• Brushing approximately 32 miles of trails, including the Dead Horse Run Motorized Trail, the Grassy Trailhead Connector, and the Grassy Trail Head.

• All entrances within the Grassy Trail Head, including the entire perimeter, are to be brushed to allow for a riding lawnmower.

• Areas to be brushed may be adjusted due to weather or natural disasters, with mutual agreement between USFS and contractor.

• Brush and stubs are to be cut no taller than 10 inches off the ground.

• Stumps will be cut flush with the ground.

• Trail tread will be left open and free from debris.

• Limbing of larger diameter trees facing the trail within a 14-foot cleared corridor.

• If the trail corridor is already 14 feet wide or wider, shoulders are to be brushed 18"-24" wide and up to 8 feet high.

• Work may begin as conditions allow after spring thaw (typically around May 1) to prevent rutting and damage.

• Work is to be completed by August 31, 2026.

• Location: Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, Great Divide Ranger District, Ashland County, Wisconsin.

• Contractor must furnish all labor, equipment, and supplies.

• Equipment must be in good operating condition and maintained at the contractor's expense.

• Equipment must be free of seeds, soil, and vegetative matter to prevent the spread of invasive weeds.

• To prevent the spread of oak wilt, oak trees are not to be pruned or cut if brushing is done prior to July 15. Oak saplings smaller than 3-inch diameter may be cut. Damage to larger oak trees must be reported and painted.

• Work is to be conducted Monday-Thursday, with no brushing on Fridays or holidays, unless authorized.

• Contractor must coordinate with the Contracting Officer Representative (COR) regarding posting warning signs.

• Inspections will be conducted by the COR, who will provide feedback for corrective actions.

• Contractor must notify the COR when areas are completed for final inspection.

• Posting of appropriate warning signs on the trail during work.

• Completion of brushing tasks as per the scope of work.

• Notification to COR upon completion for final inspection.

• Maps detailing specific locations to be brushed.
