  • Hydrostatic testing of completed assembly (165 psig for 30 minutes).
  • Lifting and handling means must be properly certified.
  • Load testing of tapped lifting holes (3750 lbs for 10 minutes).
  • Visual inspections, GO/NO-GO gage inspections, and Magnetic Particle Inspection around lifting holes.

• Documentation:

  • Contractor drawing specifying manufacturing details and materials (requires PSNS&IMF approval prior to manufacture).
  • Material testing results for lifting holes (if specific MIL-SPEC not used).
  • Load test certification papers.
  • Hydrostatic test certification papers.
  • Certified dewatering procedure.
  • Certification/CoC for materials meeting disposal criteria.
  • Certificate of Compliance (CoC) verifying overall compliance.

• Two 5/8”-11UNC-2B tapped lifting holes required in shielding.

• Specific requirements for hole depth, spacing, and material strength (minimum yield strength 36,000 PSI).

• Working load limit of 2,500 lbs (combined) for lifting holes.

• Material testing and inspections required before and after load testing.

• Transport in temporary shipping containers/crates (max 2 per container).

• Pallet attached for forklift compatibility.

• Protection from foreign material and freezing required.

• "Provide freeze protection" label required.

• Final acceptance by PSNS&IMF at destination within 20 working days after receipt.

• Approved drawing (prior to manufacture)

• Pre-load test visual inspections (prior to load testing)
