Fit reasons
- NAICS alignment with historical contract wins in similar service areas.
- Scope strongly matches core technical capabilities and delivery model.
Risks
- Past performance thresholds may require one additional teaming partner.
- Potential clarification needed on staffing minimums before bid/no-bid.
Next steps
Validate eligibility requirements, assign capture owner, and schedule partner outreach to confirm teaming strategy before submission planning.
Quick Summary
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), under the Department of Commerce, has issued a Sources Sought Notice for the Design and Integration of a Manufacturing Robotics Workcell. This market research aims to identify qualified small and other than small businesses capable of providing these services. Responses are due by June 5, 2026, at 11:00 PM ET.
Scope of Work
NIST's Engineering Laboratory (EL) Measurement Science for Robotics and Autonomous Systems (MSRAS) Program requires a professionally designed and integrated manufacturing testbed. The workcell must perform an industrial task repeatedly, represent a realistic manufacturing environment, and integrate common industrial automation tools and human safety components. The specific tasks include:
- Task 1 – Design of a Manufacturing Workcell: Design a robotic workcell (12’ x 18’ footprint, 2-5 robotic systems, conveyor, HMI) for a common industrial task. Create a digital twin/simulation (e.g., RoboDK, Siemens Process Simulate) and provide a Bill of Materials with pricing.
- Task 2 – Procurement of Workcell Materials & Testing: Coordinate with NIST, procure necessary materials, assemble, and test the workcell at the contractor site, providing video documentation.
- Task 3 – Integration of the Workcell at Government Site: Assemble and integrate the system at the government site, demonstrating functionality.
- Task 4 – Training: Provide thorough documentation (digital and physical) and in-person training for government personnel, along with ongoing support.
