Fit reasons
- NAICS alignment with historical contract wins in similar service areas.
- Scope strongly matches core technical capabilities and delivery model.
Risks
- Past performance thresholds may require one additional teaming partner.
- Potential clarification needed on staffing minimums before bid/no-bid.
Next steps
Validate eligibility requirements, assign capture owner, and schedule partner outreach to confirm teaming strategy before submission planning.
Quick Summary
The University of California, on behalf of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), is soliciting proposals for the Emerging Technologies Opportunity Program (ETOP) 2026. This Request for Proposal (RFP) seeks the development of an automated system for plant tissue culture and transformation to advance technologies for domestic biomass crops (sorghum, switchgrass, Miscanthus).
Scope of Work
The primary deliverable is an automated system capable of identifying, selecting, and removing embryogenic portions of calluses, placing them on fresh media, and tracking their growth and health. Minimum requirements include working with sorghum, miscanthus, or switchgrass callus material, achieving a minimum of 75% regeneration, and manipulating at least 10,000 calluses per day, with scalability to 50,000-500,000 calluses per day long-term. Desirable features include automated sampling for PCR/ELISA, automated media refreshing, and interoperability with other robotic systems.
