Purpose & Scope

The objective is to upgrade the electrical capacity of the USDA-ARS Western Regional Research Center's food processing laboratory to accommodate a recently acquired food extruder unit. This involves providing all necessary professional services, management, supervision, labor, equipment, and tools to:

  • Install a 3 pole, 480 volt, 80 amp circuit breaker in the existing panel.
  • Install a 100amp, 600v, NEMA 3R fusible service disconnect with (3) 80 amp fuses near the extruder.
  • Run three 4 AWG or 3 AWG copper conductors and one 8 AWG copper conductor from the panel to the disconnect, and from the disconnect to the extruder (60 feet).
  • Replace existing wire and connect the extruder to the disconnect, ensuring it is within six feet.

All work must comply with applicable federal, state, and local codes, current industry standards (EPA, ASTM, GSA, AASHTO), health and safety codes, pertinent Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS), and ARS 242.1M standards.
