Quick Summary
The National Park Service (NPS), under the Department of the Interior, has issued a Combined Synopsis/Solicitation for Hazard Tree Removal and Storm Debris Clean-Up at the Julian Price Memorial Park Campground and Price Picnic Area on the Blue Ridge Parkway, NC. This Total Small Business Set-Aside opportunity seeks to restore safe public access following damage from Hurricane Helene. Proposals are due by May 26, 2026, at 12:00 PM ET.
Scope of Work
The contractor will be responsible for identifying, planning, removing, hauling, and disposing of hazard trees and storm-related debris within approximately 62 acres of the campground and 28 acres of the picnic area. Key tasks include:
- Providing a certified arborist to develop a Tree Removal Plan and conduct a pre-cutting walkthrough.
- Marking and felling approved trees, cutting stumps to ground level, and mitigating "widow makers" (hanging limbs).
- Removing all woody debris from roads, campsites, and trails, with an estimated volume of 350 cubic yards for the campground and 160-180 cubic yards for the picnic area. Hauling may involve up to 100-mile round trips.
- Restoring disturbed areas by raking and leveling soil, and repairing rutting.
- Implementing public safety measures, including signage, fencing, and spotters, adhering to OSHA and NPS standards. Only recently downed trees should be removed; decaying trees that were down before the storm should remain. This is the first project of its kind for the Price Campground area.
