Quick Summary

The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service is soliciting quotes for Hazardous Fuel Reduction services at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) in Sherman, Texas. This 100% Small Business Set-Aside opportunity aims to mechanically thin and remove vegetation to improve burn unit control lines and reduce wildfire risk. Quotes are due by Thursday, April 30, 2026, at 2:00 PM EDT.

Scope of Work

The contractor will mechanically thin and remove approximately 105 acres of vegetation, expanding existing fuel breaks by an additional 100 feet. Target species include dense Eastern Red Cedar, Cedar Elm, Winged Elm, Honey Locust, and Bois d'Arc, while leaving oak and hickory trees with a DBH of six inches or greater undisturbed. Work involves using tracked and wheeled machines with low ground pressure, prohibiting digging or grubbing. Stumps must be cut flush or below ground level. Cut material can be scattered (not exceeding 18 inches in height) or chipped and evenly distributed (no more than 8 inches deep); pile burning is not permitted. Coordination with regional oil and gas specialists is required to avoid infrastructure damage.
