Scope of Work

The conservator will perform onsite stabilization, conservation, and preservation of a historic carved wood mural at the MPI. Key tasks include surface cleaning, addressing structural issues (cracking, lifting, detachment, wood loss), infilling material loss with reversible conservation materials, toning/painting fills to match original appearance, and applying appropriate conservation coatings. Deliverables include a pretreatment condition report, photographic documentation, a detailed conservation treatment report, and recommendations for long-term maintenance. The work is scheduled for the week of July 12–17, 2026, onsite at the Museum of the Plains Indian, 19 Museum Loop, Browning, MT 59417.

Contract Details

This is a Firm Fixed Price contract, designated as a Total Small Business Set-Aside under NAICS Code 712110 (Museums) with a $34 million size standard. The Period of Performance is the week of July 12–17, 2026. Required qualifications include demonstrated experience in wood sculpture and Native American art conservation, ability to perform onsite work in remote locations, and active registration in SAM.gov.

Submission & Evaluation

Quotations are due by June 4, 2026, 5:00 PM ET, to the same contacts. Award will be based on the most advantageous offer, considering Technical Approach, Past Performance, and Price. Technical Approach and Past Performance combined are more important than Price. Offerors must also complete and submit the Service Contract Act (SCA) Verification Form with their quotation.
