Scope of Work
NIST requires an ASME "R" stamp qualified contractor to perform critical maintenance and repair services for six high-pressure power boilers and associated support systems within the Central Utility Plant (CUP) and NIST Campus. Key services include:
- High-pressure steam piping and boiler repair, including welding on water wall tubes, economizer tubes, generating tubes, headers, drums, and other boiler components.
- Mobile welding operations on an as-needed basis.
- 24/7/365 callback service for urgent repairs, with an initial telephone response within 2 hours and emergency personnel/equipment response within 8 hours.
- Work in steam manholes, requiring confined space entry training and OSHA-compliant equipment.
Key Requirements
Contractors must possess a minimum of ten years of experience in high-pressure boiler repair under ASME "R" code and maintain ASME welding certification and NBBI "R" certification. All welders must be qualified to ASME Section IX and "R" code. The use of Schedule 80 seamless pipe for steam systems is required. Performance standards include daily written progress reports and submitting repair proposals within one day of inspection.
