Statement of Work (SOW) / Performance Work Statement (PWS)

This SOW details emergency shipyard repair services required for the NOAA R/V Southern Journey (F7701) to address electrolysis pitting in the engine room bilge area. These repairs are critical as the vessel has a "no sail" deficiency, delaying its field season. The repairs will enable the vessel to continue its missions for the Southeast Fisheries Science Center.

• Primary Task: Repair electrolysis pitting in the engine room bilge area from frame 20 to frame 24, affecting both sides of the keel up to approximately 20 inches. This involves cropping out affected metal and replacing it with new steel of the same thickness.

• Related Tasks:

  • Haul out and secure the vessel.
  • Remove and store zinc anodes, hull intake screens, and bow thruster propellers for re-installation.
  • Pressure wash the hull from the waterline down to the keel.
  • Repair pitted metal in the engine room bilge, including replacing affected steel and applying pre-construction primer.
  • Install new zinc anodes and stainless fasteners in the repaired bilge area.
  • Drain, flush, and pressure test the keel cooling system, then refill with new coolant.
  • Replace a four-inch diameter nipple in the overboard discharge piping section.
  • Prep and paint the bilge compartment and the hull from the waterline to the keel.

• Place: Repairs to be performed at a local shipyard within a 50-mile commuting radius of the vessel's homeport in Pascagoula, MS.
