Fit reasons
- NAICS alignment with historical contract wins in similar service areas.
- Scope strongly matches core technical capabilities and delivery model.
Risks
- Past performance thresholds may require one additional teaming partner.
- Potential clarification needed on staffing minimums before bid/no-bid.
Next steps
Validate eligibility requirements, assign capture owner, and schedule partner outreach to confirm teaming strategy before submission planning.
Quick Summary
Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (FNAL) is issuing a Request for Information (RFI) for the design, fabrication, and potential assembly and installation of a suspended work platform system for the MAGIS-100 experiment at its Batavia, Illinois site. This RFI aims to gather information for planning a future Request for Proposals (RFP). Responses are due July 14, 2026, at 5:00 PM CT.
Purpose
This RFI seeks information from vendors capable of providing a suspended work platform system to allow personnel safe access to instrumentation within a 100-meter deep vertical shaft for the MAGIS-100 experiment. This is for informational purposes only and does not constitute a subcontract award. Responses will inform future procurement decisions.
Scope of Work
The requirement is for a moveable scaffold system, approximately 64" deep x 68" wide, with extension capability to reach areas 40" from the nominal access position. It must have sufficient tie-off points, a roof to deflect falling objects, and stow outside the shaft region. The scaffold needs a load rating of at least 8,000 lbs (4x 2000 LB max intended load) and support a 500 LB point load. It must be stable for mechanical assembly tasks and adhere to OSHA and other applicable requirements. Access methods vary by depth, including ladders, suspended scaffolds, and scissor lifts, with a stabilizer assembly for securing platforms.
Key Requirements for Response
Vendors are requested to provide:
- A sketch, drawing, or model of a suspended scaffold design aligning with the attached SOW.
- A budgetary cost estimate and lead time for scaffolding parts.
- A description of the assembly and installation procedure.
- Examples of previous relevant work.
- Design recommendations and proposed adjustments.
