Quick Summary
The USDA Forest Service, Southwestern Regional Office, Region 3, is soliciting proposals for the Design-Build construction of approximately 18 replacement trail bridges on the Multi-Use Trail (MUT) within the Sam Houston National Forest, west of New Waverly, TX. This project addresses failed or failing bridges due to storm events and erosion. The estimated magnitude of construction is between $1,000,000 and $5,000,000. This is a Total Small Business Set-Aside. Proposals are due April 17, 2026.
Scope of Work
The project encompasses all labor, materials, equipment, supplies, travel, supervision, and incidentals for the full design and construction of the bridges. Key phases include:
- Phase A: Site Investigation and Analysis.
- Phase B: Design and Construction Document Preparation.
- Phase C: Removal and disposal of existing crossing infrastructure, construction of new crossings, and connecting trail approaches.
Bridges require a minimum deck width of 72 inches, increased spans, and freeboard. Design considerations include modular/field-constructable designs, elevated boardwalk structures for shallow streams, and tread hardening, meeting a minimum 500-year storm interval with 30% debris blocking and 18" freeboard.
