Fit reasons
- NAICS alignment with historical contract wins in similar service areas.
- Scope strongly matches core technical capabilities and delivery model.
Risks
- Past performance thresholds may require one additional teaming partner.
- Potential clarification needed on staffing minimums before bid/no-bid.
Next steps
Validate eligibility requirements, assign capture owner, and schedule partner outreach to confirm teaming strategy before submission planning.
Quick Summary
The Department of Energy (DOE), through its ORNL UT-BATTELLE LLC-DOE CONTRACTOR office, is soliciting proposals for a Sample Changing Robotic System. This opportunity, a Combined Synopsis/Solicitation, seeks a 7th axis robotic system for beam line automation and MachineLogic programming at the Neutron Scattering Division in Oak Ridge, TN. Proposals will be evaluated based on the lowest priced, technically acceptable criteria. Proposals are due by May 4, 2026, at 5:00 PM EST.
Scope of Work
The requirement is for the design, fabrication, inspection, testing, and delivery of a MAGREF 7th axis robotic system for the BL04A instrument at the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). The system must include a 6-axis robot mounted on a linear actuator to assist with loading and unloading sample sticks into a cryomagnet. Key components include:
- A 7th axis structural member (at least 115 inches long).
- Linear actuation with at least 79 inches of stroke, 1,000 lbs load capacity, and +/- 0.3 mm repeatability.
- A Universal Robot UR12e, capable of hanging from below.
- A Robotiq Hand-E Gripper end effector.
- A fully integrated robotic control system utilizing URCaps software, including an E-stop module and machine pendant.
- NRTL compliant electrical equipment.
- Required deliverables include design documentation, a manufacturing plan, non-conformance control procedures, and a packaging/shipping plan.
