Quick Summary

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Shared Services Center (NSSC) intends to award a sole source contract to the University of Pittsburgh - of the Commonwealth System of Higher Education for SHREC Membership. This Combined Synopsis/Solicitation, issued under FAR Part 13, supports NASA-Johnson Space Center's (JSC) research in mission-critical computing. Interested parties must submit capabilities by April 20, 2026, at 7 a.m. Central Standard Time.

Purpose & Justification

NASA-JSC requires membership in the Center for Space, High-Performance, and Resilient Computing (SHREC) to advance research in areas such as high-performance computing, resilient computing, space computing, and novel perception and imaging techniques. SHREC is a unique NSF Industry-University Cooperative Research Center (I/UCRC), with the University of Pittsburgh as its lead institution. It comprises approximately 30 leading organizations and offers unparalleled access to world-class professors, students, and industry partners specializing in reconfigurable adaptive computing for spaceflight. Establishing a similar research enterprise would be cost and schedule prohibitive, making SHREC the only organization capable of meeting this specific research need.

Scope of Work

The SHREC membership requires the contractor (University of Pittsburgh/SHREC) to:

  • Accept research topic input from NASA-JSC.
  • Assign research personnel (equivalent to one graduate student per membership) to NASA-requested topics.
  • Perform tasks associated with the identified research topics.
  • Provide research status updates at SHREC Working Group meetings and conferences.
