Fit reasons
- NAICS alignment with historical contract wins in similar service areas.
- Scope strongly matches core technical capabilities and delivery model.
Risks
- Past performance thresholds may require one additional teaming partner.
- Potential clarification needed on staffing minimums before bid/no-bid.
Next steps
Validate eligibility requirements, assign capture owner, and schedule partner outreach to confirm teaming strategy before submission planning.
Quick Summary
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is conducting market research through a Sources Sought notice to identify potential vendors capable of providing a Spectroscopic CCD Camera. This is not a request for quotation, but aims to determine the method of acquisition and potential small business set-aside opportunities. Responses are due by June 12, 2026, at 5:00 PM ET.
Scope of Work
NIST requires one (1) new Spectroscopic CCD Camera for the Physical Measurement Laboratory's Spin Electronics Group. The camera will be used for a virtual imaged phased array-based spectrometer to determine Heisenberg exchange in ultrathin films. Key technical specifications include:
- Resolution: At least 1020 x 120 pixels, backside illuminated.
- Quantum Efficiency: > 90% at 532 nm.
- Pixel Size: 12 µm x 12 µm to 28 µm x 28 µm.
- Binning: Full vertical and 1x1 binning support.
- Readout Speeds: Multiple speeds, including 50 kHz or lower and at least 1 MHz.
- Cooling: Minimum -60°C or lower.
- Interface: USB 3.0. The system must include software to control the camera and view images, with drivers compatible with Python-based software. Used, remanufactured, experimental, or prototype items are not acceptable. The manufacturer must have delivered at least five comparable systems, and "gray market" components are prohibited.
Requirements & Deliverables
Vendors must provide a capability statement (limited to four pages) including:
- Company name (provider and manufacturer).
- Country of origin/manufacture for the product.
- Spec/data sheets demonstrating compliance with specifications.
- Typical lead time (18 weeks is the desired lead time).
- Any other relevant information for NIST's market research.
Deliverables include the CCD Camera, software, and drivers, with delivery FOB Destination to NIST in Boulder, CO. A minimum 1-year warranty is required, and payment will be Net 30 after installation, acceptance, and successful demonstration.
Contract & Timeline
- Opportunity Type: Sources Sought (Market Research)
- NAICS Code: 334516, Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing (Small Business Size Standard: 1,000 employees).
