Fit reasons
- NAICS alignment with historical contract wins in similar service areas.
- Scope strongly matches core technical capabilities and delivery model.
Risks
- Past performance thresholds may require one additional teaming partner.
- Potential clarification needed on staffing minimums before bid/no-bid.
Next steps
Validate eligibility requirements, assign capture owner, and schedule partner outreach to confirm teaming strategy before submission planning.
Quick Summary
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) is conducting market research through a Sources Sought / Request for Information (RFI) to identify vendors capable of providing one Electro-Magnetic Gradiometer Sensing System Hardware (EMG-SSH) Device. This device is required to be sensitive between 50kHz-750kHz and capable of picotesla range measurements for detecting and mapping long linear subsurface conductors. Responses are due by May 11, 2026, at 12:00 PM Central Standard Time (CST).
Scope of Work
The EMG-SSH device must meet specifications outlined in the attached DRAFT Description of Requirement (DOR). Key requirements include:
- System Components: A rugged, lightweight, man-carry boom (approx. 1.75m, disassemblable, fits in a 32x21x13in case), differential EMG receiver electronics (sealed, programmable 50kHz-750kHz, two channels), powered by Bren-Tronics BB-2590/U batteries, matched electrically shielded Magnetic Dipole Antenna pairs, a small tablet computer, a mobile GPS navigation receiver (sub 20cm accuracy), and a rugged laptop.
- Performance: Must detect secondary fields from long conductors (>100m) and be sensitive to fields in the picotesla range.
- Data Acquisition: Software for frequency control, data collection, real-time display of locations and magnetic fields, independent data saving (min 10Hz), system status alerts, merging GPS and EM data, automatic file naming, and CSV output.
- Deliverables: One full system, system design drawings, instrument assembly/disassembly manual, instrument operation manual, software operation manual, and in-person training.

Submission Requirements
Interested organizations must submit the following via email to Janalyn Dement (Janalyn.H.Dement@usace.army.mil):
- Contact Information: Company name, address, point of contact, telephone, email, Cage Code, primary NAICS, business size (including socio-economic factors), SAM registration status, and webpage address.
- Answers to Questions: Address capabilities for fabricating instrumentation, developing software, and obtaining peripheral components as described in the DOR.
- Capabilities Statement: Describe capabilities in fabricating and providing the required system, experience with radio frequency electromagnetic sensing systems, and previous procurement information.
Additional Notes
This RFI is for information and planning purposes only and does not constitute a solicitation or guarantee a future contract award. Responses will be used to assess market availability and technical capabilities. Not responding does not preclude participation in any future Request for Quote (RFQ), if issued.
