Fit reasons
- NAICS alignment with historical contract wins in similar service areas.
- Scope strongly matches core technical capabilities and delivery model.
Risks
- Past performance thresholds may require one additional teaming partner.
- Potential clarification needed on staffing minimums before bid/no-bid.
Next steps
Validate eligibility requirements, assign capture owner, and schedule partner outreach to confirm teaming strategy before submission planning.
Quick Summary
NASA/NSSC intends to issue a sole source contract to RPM INNOVATIONS INC for Thin Wall Directed Energy Deposition (DED) of JBK-75 and NASA HR-1 Nozzle and Representative components. This Combined Synopsis/Solicitation is for a large-scale manufacturing technology demonstration at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC). Interested organizations capable of providing these items are invited to submit their capabilities and qualifications in writing by June 12, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. CST.
Scope of Work
The effort requires the fabrication of subscale thin-wall nozzles, material property testing process qualification samples, and process characterization samples using JBK-75 and NASA HR-1 alloys, as well as specialty alloys, via Laser Powder Directed Energy Deposition (LP-DED). Key tasks include:
- Fabricating witness test specimens for JBK-75 and NASA HR-1 LP-DED processing.
- Providing engineering support for LP-DED to complete build samples with approximately 1 mm wall thickness and integral channels.
- Demonstrating LP-DED capability using a large-scale machine platform for an RS-25 nozzle aft end (greater than 90" height and 80" diameter) with 1 mm wall thickness.
- Utilizing JBK-75 Fe-Ni and NASA HR-1 Fe-Ni alloys (virgin and used powder acceptable).
- Ensuring print duration within 75 consecutive days (approx. 1170 hours), including engineering support, operator, consumables, and inert gas chamber.
- Fabricating specific sample builds: NASA HR-1 7K Thin-wall Nozzle (AFT and FWD), and JBK-75 witness specimens.
- Vendor to purchase JBK-75 rotary atomized powder (up to 1,000 pounds).
- Completing final inspection of 7K nozzles using laser scanning and providing a report of scanning data.
