Fit reasons
- NAICS alignment with historical contract wins in similar service areas.
- Scope strongly matches core technical capabilities and delivery model.
Risks
- Past performance thresholds may require one additional teaming partner.
- Potential clarification needed on staffing minimums before bid/no-bid.
Next steps
Validate eligibility requirements, assign capture owner, and schedule partner outreach to confirm teaming strategy before submission planning.
Quick Summary
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is conducting market research through a Sources Sought Notice to identify potential sources capable of providing a torque motor. This notice is for planning purposes only and is not a solicitation. Responses are due by June 22, 2026, at 4:00 PM ET.
Scope of Work
NIST requires one full torque motor (4 coil segments + 7 segments of magnet) and one additional set of 4 coil segments. The motor must be precisely dimensioned to match existing NIST infrastructural hardware and bearings, filling a full circular ring. Key specifications include:
- Two full sets of coil rings (4x90 deg = 360 deg each).
- One full set of magnet ring (6x54 deg + 1x36 deg = 360 deg).
- 40 pole pairs (80 segments) of NdFeB magnets matching the pitch of 40 individual trapezoidal coils.
- Coils fully embedded in thermally conductive cured epoxy fins (10 coils per 90 deg arc).
- At least 0.65 T axial magnetic field within the air gap.
- Total magnet ring height of 29 mm, with an air gap between 7-8 mm.
- At least one thermistor embedded in each coil arc and 4 total in select magnet arcs for temperature measurement.
