To reduce fuel load and alter fuel arrangements within the Oregon Caves National Monument & Preserve boundaries by mechanically cutting and piling small diameter conifers. This aims to reduce wildland fire intensity around key areas like the Headquarters, Historical District, and Cave Creek Campground, thereby lessening the risk of catastrophic wildland fires to structures.

• Mechanically cut and pile small diameter (< 8 inches DBH) live conifers and dead trees (< 13 inches DBH).

• Prune remaining trees and remove ladder fuels.

• Buck up dead and down material on-site down to 1" in diameter.

• Work must protect park visitors, rare plants, archaeological sites, monument infrastructure, preserve wildlife habitat, and minimize aesthetic impacts.

• Contractor to provide all labor, equipment, materials, supplies, and services, including mobilization.

• Motorized equipment is limited to hand-held and hand-carried items.

• Future pile burning is not part of this contract.

• Thin trees over 12 inches DBH to 8 inches DBH; leave live trees over 8 inches DBH.

• Limb live and dead branches on leave trees 6-8 feet above ground, maintaining at least 50% of the live crown.

• Leave a minimum of one tree every 15 feet, prioritizing Yew, Ponderosa Pine, and Douglas Fir.

• Cut and pile ladder fuels (brush > 1 ft tall and trees up to 8 inches DBH) at least 7 feet beyond remaining trees.

• Flush cut all stumps within 3 inches of the ground.
