Fit reasons
- NAICS alignment with historical contract wins in similar service areas.
- Scope strongly matches core technical capabilities and delivery model.
Risks
- Past performance thresholds may require one additional teaming partner.
- Potential clarification needed on staffing minimums before bid/no-bid.
Next steps
Validate eligibility requirements, assign capture owner, and schedule partner outreach to confirm teaming strategy before submission planning.
Quick Summary
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), under the Department of Commerce, is conducting a Sources Sought to identify potential sources for two precision 1-circle segment stages (goniometers). These goniometers must be capable of supporting a load of at least 50 kg with required cabling. The purpose is to support NIST's neutron imaging team in developing a far-field grating neutron interferometer. Responses are due by June 9, 2026.
Scope of Work
NIST requires goniometers with specific technical specifications:
- Travel Range: At least +/- 15 degrees (larger preferred).
- Angular Resolution: At least 0.002 degrees (smaller preferred).
- Maximum Load: 50 kg (larger preferred).
- Mass: Less than 5 kg (without motor).
- Motor: Includes a DC or 2-phase stepper motor with a cable at least 1.5 m long.
- Mounting Surface: Greater than or equal to 150 mm by 50 mm, with at least four tapped thru holes.
Response Requirements
Interested parties should provide the following information (limited to 4 pages):
- Company name, address, contact information, and UEI (if registered in SAM.gov).
- Details of equipment that meets the requirements, including manufacturer, model, technical specifications, country of manufacturing, and reseller status.
- Performance capabilities, customization options, and suggestions for improving the market research notice.
- Manufacturing location (US or foreign) and any planned changes.
- Company's small business status under NAICS 334516 (Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing) or suggest an alternative NAICS code.
- Available services (installation, training, maintenance), standard terms and conditions, and facility renovation capabilities.
- Published pricing, discount arrangements, and Federal Supply Schedule contract information.
- Customer references and any other valuable information for NIST.
- Indicate if additional information or a meeting with NIST representatives is desired.
