Purpose & Scope
The VA Caribbean Healthcare System (VACHS) requires comprehensive Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician services to care for eligible beneficiaries. Services include initial patient evaluation (inpatient, outpatient, ED), surgical procedures (e.g., VATs, Lobectomy's, thoracotomy, diaphragm plication, chest wall hernia repair, decortication, pleurectomy, chest tube management w/tPA), post-operative care, Cardiothoracic Surgery Consults, Permanent Pacemaker Implants, and back-up for Interventional Cardiology (PCI) cases.
Key Requirements
- Personnel: Minimum of two (2) Board Certified/Board Eligible Cardiothoracic Surgeons are required, credentialed and available for simultaneous scheduling.
- Coverage:
- On-site: One surgeon required on-site for scheduled elective procedures and clinic evaluations on Mondays and Wednesdays (7:00 am - 3:30 pm), plus Friday meetings (7:30 am - 8:30 am).
- On-call: One surgeon required on-call during weeknights (Mon/Wed 3:30 pm - 7:00 am) and 24-hour coverage on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, weekends, and holidays.
- Emergency Response: Key personnel must be available on-site within one (1) hour for back-up/emergency cases.
- Qualifications: Physicians must possess a current, full, and unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state, territory, or commonwealth, be Board Certified/Board Eligible by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, and hold current BLS and ACLS certifications. A minimum of four (4) years of continuous work experience within the last five (5) years is also required.
