Quick Summary
The United States Space Force (USSF), under the Department of the Air Force, is soliciting proposals for Track Ball Controllers to enable remote operation of existing K-Mount optical tracking systems. This acquisition is a 100% Small Business Set-Aside. Proposals are due by April 24, 2026, at 10:00 AM Local Time.
Purpose & Scope
The USSF requires a remote control solution for its K-Mount optical tracking systems, allowing them to be operated from inside a facility where personnel cannot be present. This solicitation is for the procurement of three (3) Track Ball controllers, which will require minor modifications to integrate with the existing systems. While a commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) solution is viable, customization is necessary. The place of performance is Lompoc, CA.
Key Requirements
Bidders must propose solutions that meet the detailed "Salient Characteristics" outlined in Attachment A1, which include:
- Three (3) Tracking Balls with X and Y-axis force proportional functionality.
- USB interface with HID communication protocol and a minimum 10' cable.
- Compatibility with Microsoft Windows 10 and 11.
- Ability to update firmware post-build and install.
- Provision of operation and service manuals, including drivers, configuration, zeroing, and firmware update procedures.
- A desk-operable base, with easy removability for fixed station installation (using standard Philips or Allen screws).
- A dimensioned drawing of mounting holes, thread pitch, and bellow mounting plate clearance.
- Approximately 3" diameter for the top hemisphere of the ball.
- Post-delivery integration support, user training, and one set of firmware code flash interface hardware.
Additionally, quoters must provide a dimensioned drawing of the proposed unit and technical capability documentation demonstrating the ability to produce customized track ball controllers, including non-recurring engineering, design, fabrication, integration, electrical design modification, and custom firmware/software development for communication with legacy operating systems, including a "re-flash" capability.
