Quick Summary

The United States Space Force (USSF) is soliciting proposals for Track Ball Controllers to enable remote operation of existing K-Mount optical tracking systems. This acquisition is a 100% Small Business Set-Aside (NAICS 334118). Offers are due by April 27, 2026, 8:00 PM UTC.

Purpose

The USSF requires a remote control solution to operate existing K-Mount optical tracking systems, allowing them to be placed inside facilities where personnel cannot be present. The objective is to procure three (3) track ball controllers that can be integrated with minor modifications to existing systems.

Scope of Work

This solicitation is for the procurement of three (3) Track Ball controllers. Key requirements include:

  • Control Type: 2-axis force proportional tracking stick/ball, specifically a half-hemisphere ball (not a 6-axis "space mouse" or aircraft-style joystick).
  • Interface: USB physical interface with Human Interface Device (HID) software protocol, requiring a 10-foot minimum USB cable length. Must be compatible with Microsoft Windows 10 and 11, and integrate with L3 Brashear mobile Kinetic Tracking Mounts (KTMs) and DOAMS base control software.
  • Form Factor & Mounting: The unit must include a desk-operable base and be easily removable for installation in a fixed station without de-soldering or disconnecting the USB cable. It should be versatile, capable of mounting to a flat surface, and the top hemisphere of the ball should be approximately 3 inches in diameter.
  • Compatibility: The solution must serve as a Form, Fit, and Function (FFF) replacement for the legacy Bokam tracking stick.
  • Firmware & Documentation: Ability to update firmware post-build and install. Provision of operation and service manuals, minimum Microsoft Windows drivers, basic configuration, zeroing procedures, firmware update procedures, and any other necessary software/procedures. Limited post-delivery integration support and user training, including one set of firmware code flash interface hardware, are also required.

    • Price: Ranked from lowest to highest Total Evaluated Price (TEP).
    • Technical: Evaluated on a Pass/Fail basis (Acceptable/Unacceptable). An "Acceptable" rating requires conformity with salient characteristics, submission of technical capability documentation (demonstrating ability for custom design, engineering, electrical modification, firmware/software development for legacy OS, and re-flash capability), and a dimensioned drawing of the proposed unit. Failure to meet any material requirement will result in an "Unacceptable" rating.
  • Offerors must agree to hold their quote firm for 30 calendar days from the date specified for receipt of quotes.
