Quick Summary
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Central Federal Lands Division, is soliciting bids for the rehabilitation of the approach road and parking lot at the Madison Wetland Management District (WMD) Headquarters and the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) Visitor Center in Lake County, South Dakota. This project, identified as SD FTFW MADI 10(2) & 9000(1), aims to improve safety, mobility, and extend the service life of the access infrastructure. Sealed bids are due by June 16, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. local time.
Scope of Work
The project involves comprehensive pavement reconstruction. This includes a new 3.5-inch asphalt concrete pavement (ACP) over a 4-inch aggregate base for the approach road and parking lot. The existing two-way, single-lane access road will maintain a consistent 14-foot width, with reconstruction addressing the approach road apron. The parking lot will undergo full reconstruction, providing eight 10x20-foot stalls (including one accessible) and ten additional 10x20-foot stalls, regraded to a uniform 1.75% cross slope. The scope also covers structural section replacement, realignment, widening, drainage and grading improvements, and accessibility and safety enhancements. All work must comply with the FP-24 Standard Specifications for Construction of Roads and Bridges on Federal Highway Projects. A detailed Pavement Design Report provides geotechnical and pavement design recommendations.
